A Crosby poet is launching a new limited edition poetry journal that welcomes work from poets at all stages of their writing lives.
Maria Isakova Bennett, who has recently been selected for a Northern Writers’ Award, and who regularly reads and runs workshops in Liverpool galleries, will bring together poets for the journal’s launch on Thursday, August 17.
Maria, who lives in Crosby, said: “The journal is edited by myself and poet Michael Brown.
“Michael and I have worked on numerous projects on Merseyside over the past three years.
“Coast to Coast to Coast comes out of our work linked to art and the river here in Liverpool, and will be a regular publication of some of the best new poetry in the UK and further afield.
“The idea isn’t to limit the journal to work from Liverpool.
“Michael comes from Middlesbrough and was also awarded a Northern Writers’ award this year.
“We relish the idea of making links east to west, north to south, and outside of the UK… Coast to Coast to Coast.
“The project is partly inspired by my work as an artist.
“In creating the journals and launches, Michael and I aim to bring art and poetry together to create something unique and beautiful.
“The journals are individually hand-stitched, each one its own work of art.”
The launch of the first issue of Coast to Coast to Coast will take place at the Open Eye Gallery in Liverpool on Thursday at 6pm, and is free to attend.
The hand-stitched journals will be available at the gallery on the night.
Maria said: “The event will be an opportunity for local people to see and listen to poets reading their own work, and I hope it will inspire some budding poets – maybe even to submit to the next edition of Coast to Coast to Coast.”
